(Jeonju=Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Dong-cheol = Jeonbuk Jeonju City announced on the 13th that an eco-friendly agricultural corporation has been selected for the 'Forage Feed Specialized Complex Bidding Project' led by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, securing 3.6 billion won in government funding for the next five years.
Forage feed refers to feed with low content of fat and protein and high content of fiber.
The secured project funds will be supported for forage silage manufacturing costs, machinery and equipment for forage feed, seed purchase costs, and manure and slurry spraying costs.
Currently, the scale of forage feed required by livestock farmers in Jeonju City amounts to 360,000 tons annually.
Approximately 70% of this is self-sufficient through local production of forage feed and rice straw, but the rest relies on imports.
Lee Yong-gwan, the director of the Jeonju Agricultural Technology Center, said, "Producing forage crops independently is a competitive and stable business to prepare for the decline in Hanwoo beef prices and the sharp increase in feed costs," and added, "We will strive to stabilize the management of livestock farms through improving the quality of forage feed and expanding the cultivation area in the future."
