The Jeonnam Provincial Animal Hygiene Testing Institute (Director Jeong Ji-young) announced that it has been strengthening slaughter inspections and quarantine checks in line with the special preventive measures for highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) that began in October, in order to prevent the spread of the virus through slaughterhouses and to minimize damage to farms. Particularly, following the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza at a duck farm in Gwangju on the 22nd, preemptive quarantine measures have been taken to prevent the spread of the virus through slaughterhouses. This includes strengthening inspections for avian influenza at slaughterhouses and farms that send livestock to slaughter, conducting live and post-slaughter inspections on chickens and ducks sent to slaughter, and daily checks on the use of appropriate disinfectants, etc.
