The 2022 National Socio-Economic Survey revealed that Indonesian people consume more protein than the national standard, but animal protein consumption is still low, particularly poultry. The government is launching the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program in 2025 to provide livestock products to school children and pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, in an effort to reduce stunting in children. The MBG program requires collaboration from various stakeholders, including the government, business world, education world, society, and media. The National Nutrition Agency will serve as the leading offtaker for livestock products. Experts suggest that there is potential to increase livestock product consumption and improve price stability and education on the importance of animal protein.
