Jordan halts frozen poultry imports to support local production

In recent weeks, Jordan has faced significant challenges in agriculture, particularly in the poultry sector. The Ministry of Agriculture has decided to suspend imports of frozen poultry in response to growing pressure on local producers. This decision was made following discussions by the House of Representatives’ Agriculture and Water Committee, chaired by MP Ahmed al-Shdeifat. Agriculture Minister Saeb al-Harith explained that the import suspension is aimed at protecting local production and supporting farmers amid price instability. He noted that unregulated poultry production in Jordan has led to price fluctuations, negatively impacting farmers’ incomes. The ministry also emphasized the need to control imports in accordance with local standards to protect producers’ interests.
