This article marks the 200th anniversary of the introduction of potatoes to Korea and highlights the production process of seed potatoes. The process involves five stages, starting with basic species and ending with popular varieties for consumption. The use of hydroponic cultivation technology, first commercialized by Goryeongji Agricultural Research Institute, plays a crucial role in mass producing disease-free seed potatoes, increasing productivity and reducing the need for labor. Despite challenges such as climate change affecting potato production and a shift towards preferring foreign products, the Rural Development Administration is responding by developing new potato varieties. One of these, 'Golden Ball', is expected to replace the commonly grown 'Sumi' variety due to its superior taste and high temperature tolerance.
