Over 2,500 farmers from various districts in Punjab have picked up biofortified wheat seeds from the ICAR-Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley (IIWBR) in an effort to combat nutrient deficiencies. The seeds include the biofortified varieties DBW-327, DBW-303, DBW-332, DBW-187, and DBW-222. These varieties were developed by scientists at the ICAR-IIWBR, Karnal and have shown to perform well with high yields. The distribution of seeds has recently started and will be extended to farmers in other states such as Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, MP, Rajasthan, and Delhi. Each farmer has been given 10 kg of seeds to produce their own seed for the following year.
