In Kazakhstan, the agricultural sector is preparing for a sowing area of 23.8 million hectares this year, with a slight reduction in wheat cultivation to 13.3 million hectares from the previous year's 13.76 million hectares. The Minister of Agriculture, Aidarbek Saparov, has outlined plans to diversify crop production by increasing the cultivation of high-profit crops such as sunflowers by 60 thousand hectares, reaching a total of 1.2 million hectares. Additionally, there will be a decrease in the cultivation of water-intensive crops like cotton and rice due to irrigation challenges, while forage crops will be expanded by 68 thousand hectares. The mass sowing campaign is expected to start in mid-May, with some regions already beginning the process.
