Kazakhstan sets records: vegetable oil production increased by a quarter

In Kazakhstan, the processing of oilseed crops continues to grow. From January to July 2025, the production volume of vegetable oil amounted to 521.2 thousand tons, which is 24% more than the previous year (420.5 thousand tons). The lion's share was sunflower oil — 457.7 thousand tons, with a growth of 24.5%. By the end of 2024, the country produced 753 thousand tons of vegetable oil — 12% more than in 2023. Sunflower oil showed an increase of 18.3%. Currently, Kazakhstan has 88 processing plants with a total capacity of 4.7 million tons of oilseeds per year. However, their average load currently reaches only 35%, which leaves significant potential for further increasing production volumes. Exports are also showing growth: in 2024, shipments of vegetable oils abroad increased by 29%. The key destinations were China (42.4% of exports), Uzbekistan (35.4%), Tajikistan (12.7%), Afghanistan (3.2%), Kyrgyzstan (1.4%), as well as Latvia and Turkmenistan (1.8%).
