Kazakh authorities, led by Vice Minister of Agriculture Yerbol Taszhurekov, are pursuing efforts to increase grain and flour exports to Afghanistan, following a significant decline in recent years. The 2023 wheat exports to Afghanistan saw a 53% decrease compared to the previous year, with the first eight months of 2024 witnessing five times less wheat supply compared to the same period in 2023. Despite these setbacks, Kazakhstan aims to restore its former status as a major supplier of grain and flour to Afghanistan, leveraging the quality of its produce and the potential to boost trade. The country's 2024 grain harvest is projected to be one of the best on record, offering a timely opportunity to strengthen its agricultural presence in the region.
