Consumption of meat and meat products in Kazakhstan hit a four-year low in 2022, with per capita consumption at 78.2 kg, driven by a decrease in beef, lamb, and pork consumption. However, there was an increase in horsemeat and chicken consumption. The meat production in the first four months of 2023 was down by 2.5% compared to the same period in 2022, while poultry meat production rose by 33.3%. Meat and poultry prices also increased by 12.1% over the year, with the most significant increase seen in poultry prices. The price hike was more pronounced in certain regions like Pavlodar, Astana, Akmola, North-Kazakhstan, and Kostanai.
