Ivory Coast is the largest exporter of raw cashew nuts, with production over 1 million tons and exports reaching 719,900 tons in 2022. The country is also starting to process and export cashew kernels, with a volume much lower than Vietnam's. However, as more countries shift from raw cashew nut exports to cashew kernel processing, competitive pressure is increasing. Global cashew production has surpassed 5 million tons, and other nuts like almonds and walnuts are preferred by international roasters and retailers due to their lower price despite being more expensive. Vietnamese cashew businesses need to focus on improving the quality and food safety of their cashew kernels to maintain their market position, particularly in the US, where they are popular but face food safety concerns.
