Tridge summary

Macadamia farmers in Kenya earned over Sh4 billion in 2022 due to increased production of the nuts, with over 65,000 metric tons produced. The good prices were due to business competition among processors, with a kilo of macadamia sold at not less than Sh90. The number of macadamia farmers has increased, leading to more production and a wider market. However, theft of macadamia from farms is a problem, with processors smuggling the nuts out of the country. The Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) has been urged to regulate the sector and be involved in the entire value chain to help farmers get better returns.
