KeyPerú, under the leadership of Miguel Ognio, is planning a significant export initiative, aiming to ship 1,170 tons of buttermut squash (curcubita moschata) across the Atlantic Ocean to Europe in the upcoming campaign spanning February to April. This annual operation, marked by a tight export window due to the crop's specific harvest schedule, is designed to capitalize on the lucrative market opportunities that present themselves during this period, particularly when the supply from Argentina, Brazil, and Central America is lower. Ognio highlights the challenges faced in securing a phytosanitary agreement with the United States, a crucial market that currently remains inaccessible for Peruvian pumpkin exports. Despite these obstacles, KeyPerú maintains its focus on Europe, leveraging a dedicated 35 hectare farm in Ica and Huara to deliver a high-quality product that meets the demands of Old World markets.
