I have been farming to the best of my ability for the development of Yangyang pears and agriculture, wanting to spread the word about the excellence of Yangyang pears and the importance of agriculture." Yangyang pears have been renowned for their high quality since ancient times, with records of them being presented to Myeongnyeong Palace on June 21, 19th year of King Jeongjo, as noted in the Veritable Records of the Joseon Dynasty, and they are also frequently mentioned in the poetry of notable figures. Kim Ik-hwan (66), the 15th President of the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Association of the Korean Farmers' Association, is doing his utmost to spread the word about the excellence of Yangyang pears. Selected as a successor agricultural manager in 1993, President Kim Ik-hwan currently manages 3,000 pyeong of pear orchards, 1,000 pyeong of cherry orchards, and 100 pyeong of soybean fields.
