Recent improvements in weather conditions have led to a positive turn in the growth of kimchi cabbage, which is expected to ensure a smooth supply during this year's kimchi season. However, prices are predicted to decrease somewhat compared to last year.

On October 30, Daea Fresh Produce, a wholesale market corporation in Garak Market, Seoul, announced that a survey conducted from October 27 to 29 in the main production areas of kimchi cabbage in Jeonnam Province found that the cultivation area of cabbage in the Haenam region is estimated to have increased by 12% compared to last year.

A Daea Fresh Produce official explained, "The cultivation area has increased significantly, and with the recent improvement in weather conditions, the growth has also recovered, so there should be no major issues with the supply of cabbage for the kimchi season."

Previously, concerns were raised that the kimchi cabbage might face supply issues due to increased bolting rates caused by abnormal high temperatures during the seedling stage and the spread of wilt disease due to autumn rains in mid-October.

Kim Gi-dong, a distributor of cabbage in the Haenam region, said, "With the recent improvement in weather, the growth has improved, and the overall growth is good. When the kimchi cabbage is fully harvested in Haenam in late November, the supply of cabbage for the kimchi season in the Seoul metropolitan area is expected to be smooth."

Prices are expected to decrease somewhat. Go Haeng-seo, an auctioneer at Daea Fresh Produce, said, "As the growth recovers, the burden on consumers to purchase cabbage during the kimchi season is expected to ease. We will do our best to stabilize the supply of key items during the kimchi season, including strengthening inspections at the production sites."

Meanwhile, Daea Fresh Produce surveyed the growth conditions of autumn radishes in the Chungcheong and Jeolla regions from October 20 to 22. This year's autumn radishes are being delayed in shipment due to frequent rain during the growth period, but Daea Fresh Produce expects that late-maturing varieties will be shipped during the main kimchi season, ensuring a smooth supply.
