The Korea Livestock Improvement Association and the National Institute of Animal Science have recognized the Korean Black Pig as the first domestically improved native breed, marking a significant achievement in native livestock preservation. This recognition, a result of a partial revision in the 'Recognition Standards and Procedures for Native Livestock', allows for improved native breeds to be classified as native, with the improved Korean black pig becoming the first to receive this designation. The certification was issued to individual number 4042 (Boar) and 220 pigs at Deokyu Farm, highlighting the important collaboration between the Korea Livestock Research Institute and the Korea Livestock Improvement Association in this milestone. Developed in 2015 and distributed from 2016, the Korean Black Pig is not only a symbol of advanced breeding techniques but also promises to stimulate the growth of related industries and enhance farm income.
