The Korea Forest Service has been recognized for its mangrove forest restoration project in Vietnam as an excellent official development assistance (ODA) project by the Vietnamese government. The project, which started in 2020 with an investment of 5.8 billion won and is set to complete by 2026, has restored 250 hectares of mangrove forests in the Red River Delta, providing protection against natural disasters and generating income for local residents through a mangrove honey cooperative. The project's success has led to a request for a two-year extension and plans for further cooperation between Korea and Vietnam in the forestry sector.
