The Krasnodar Territory in Russia has allocated 15 million rubles from the regional budget to compensate beet growers for the purchase of Russian-selected sugar beet seeds. The region, the largest beet sugar producing area in Russia, has sown sugar beets across nearly 200,000 hectares, with plans to increase the area sown with Kuban varieties by 2024. The territory, which accounts for about 25% of Russia's total sugar beet production, fully covers its own needs and supplies surplus to other regions. The region is exploring other sources of income from sugar beet processing, including the growing market for beet pulp and the production of biodegradable packaging from beet industry waste.
