Lambayeque: Farmers from the Old Olmos Valley Demand Urgent Measure Before Water Concession Contract Expiration

Lambayeque. The Farmers and Agricultural Producers Associations of Irrigation Blocks No. 2, 4, and 9 of the Viejo Olmos Valley have expressed, in a public statement, their deep concern regarding the upcoming expiration of the Olmos Transfer Concession contract, which supplies water from the Huancabamba River to more than 4,000 hectares of crops. Less than 90 days before the contract ends, farmers have witnessed months of discussions and confrontations between authorities, generating uncertainty and distrust in the project's continuity. The farmers demand that the Peruvian State guarantee the continuity of the Olmos project and allow the Olmos Transfer Concession (CTO) to continue operating transitionally while the future of the work is defined.
