South Korea's agricultural and food exports reached a record high of $13.03 billion in 2023, a 6.1% increase from the previous year, with 14 items including ramen, pesticides, and kimchi setting new export records. The number of agricultural and food product exporting countries increased to 207. The growth was led by the US, China, and Europe, with the US becoming the largest market. However, exports to Japan decreased due to weakened price competitiveness. Upstream and downstream industrial exports, such as agricultural machinery and smart farms, saw a decrease due to large orders from the previous year. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs plans to continue expanding exports by utilizing the Korean Wave and K-food popularity, and by strengthening communication with the industry and promoting the removal of non-tariff barriers.
