Niigata Prefecture in Japan has lifted travel and export restrictions following an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza at a local poultry farm. The restrictions, which were in place for 21 days after the quarantine measures at the affected farm were completed, included a movement restriction area and an export restriction area. The prefecture also confirmed that there is no risk of human infection from eating chicken meat or eggs. The outbreak marked the third case of the disease in Japan's poultry population for the season.
