Live carp will be more expensive this year in Hungary

The extreme drought and skyrocketing costs did not make the work of the lake farms any easier, the level of the fish ponds dropped dangerously low in many places, and some waters even dried up. As a result, much less fish than usual came out of the ponds, but István Németh, president of the Hungarian Aquaculture and Fisheries Interprofessional Organization (MA-HAL), told Magyar Nemzet: there is no need to fear a shortage of fish during the Christmas period. But significantly higher prices than last year's holiday season should be expected. Németh told the paper, live carp will be about 40 percent more expensive, its kilo will be between HUF 1,800 and HUF 2,200 this year.
