Malaysia has lifted its suspension on live horse imports from Argentina, which was in place since November 2023 due to concerns over Western Equine Encephalomyelitis. This decision comes after eight months of coordinated efforts involving Argentina's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Senasa, and the Argentine Embassy in Malaysia. These organizations collaborated to exchange health information, perform a new risk analysis, and obtain approval for a new International Veterinary Certificate. In 2022, Malaysia ranked as the seventh-largest market for Argentine live horse exports. The resumed exports will comply with Malaysian health regulations.
