REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SAMARINDA -- The Government of East Kalimantan Province (Kaltim) through the Department of Food, Food Crops, and Horticulture (DPTPH) is optimizing the role of local farmers to become the main suppliers in the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, whose implementation is being expanded. "This effort is designed to empower the farmers' economy while ensuring the quality of the nutritional food received by the students," said Head of Kaltim DPTPH Siti Farisyah Yana in Samarinda, on Wednesday. The MBG program is a motivator for farmers to expand their cultivated areas. The market certainty from the Food and Nutrition Centers (SPPG) or the nearest public kitchen will motivate farmers to increase their planting areas, she explained. "In the future, farmers will no longer have difficulties marketing their produce. The presence of nearby SPPG will encourage them to expand their land extensively," said Yana.
