A local cooperative in Long An, Vietnam, has taken a bold step to directly export lemons to the Middle East, bypassing the dominant large enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho. This strategy has resulted in higher prices for growers and expansion into other markets like the EU, UK, Russia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, and the Middle East. The cooperative's representative in Dubai is actively exploring demand for agricultural products, enabling direct negotiations with customers and ensuring stable output and prices. Despite challenges such as climate change, drought, and saltwater intrusion, long-term plans include water storage and organic fertilization. With support from state agencies and plans to identify lemon trees as a key crop by 2025, Long An lemon farmers are experiencing stable output and high prices, indicating a promising future for the industry.
