The National Forest Conservation Program for Climate Change Mitigation (Forest Program), from the Ministry of the Environment, has enabled the native community of Puerto Nuevo, in the Madre de Dios region, to improve its processes of collection, transportation, and commercialization of chestnuts, consolidating this activity as a key source of sustainable income for the population. This articulated work between the Ministry of the Environment (Minam) and the native communities continues to generate concrete results in the conservation of the Amazon forests, through economic incentives and technical assistance for the sustainable use of the territory.
