Indian mango growers are planning to increase exports this year, with Malaysia and Argentina as new markets, and the Middle East expected to start imports next month. India exports around 50,000 tonnes of Alphonso and Kesar varieties annually, with Maharashtra being the largest exporter. Over 13,000 mango orchards have registered on MangoNet, an online traceability system, this season. However, high freight costs could impact exports. The mango season is expected to start a month late with low arrivals in March. The Alphonso mango variety has been granted a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, which is expected to aid in higher exports by ensuring authenticity.
