Malaysia is planning to increase palm oil exports to the Middle East and Africa by establishing new export centers in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The country is also looking to strengthen relations with Qatar and China to increase supplies. This comes after the EU adopted new rules for the import of agricultural products, prohibiting those produced using processes that lead to forest area reduction, which Malaysia and Indonesia consider discriminatory. Last year, Malaysian palm oil exports to the Middle East increased by 32% and to North Africa by 51%, but exports to the EU decreased by 22% in January and February this year.
