Beijing residents are experiencing a surge in vegetable prices, especially Chinese cabbage, due to a combination of factors including cold weather in producing areas, increased transportation and logistics costs, and a shortage of manpower for sorting and packaging due to epidemic prevention measures. The shortage is further exacerbated by delays in the launch of southern vegetables and strong cold waves. In response, major supermarkets in Beijing are working to increase supply, and some are offering insured vegetables to allow citizens to purchase cheaply. During the Spring Festival, supermarkets plan to increase their stocks and maintain a stable supply and price.
