MAPA obtains the total of additional fishing days available for the Mediterranean trawl fleet in Spain

The Spanish Mediterranean trawl fleet will be able to have the maximum number of additional fishing days by 2023, a recognition that is the result of several months of negotiation between the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the European Commission for the application of the so-called mechanism of compensation of the regulation of fishing opportunities in this sea. The Commission has agreed to the request of the Spanish Government to add 853 additional days for the deep-sea red shrimp fishery for those vessels that have voluntarily changed their nets for others with a mesh size 50 millimeters, which is more selective. The initial allocation granted for the Spanish fleet in the Mediterranean for the year 2023 was 85,011 days between the different length segments and the coastal and deep-sea red shrimp fisheries.
