The cultivation of sesame has advanced significantly in Brazil, with Mato Grosso standing out as the leader in national production. Over the past five years, the planted area in the state has more than tripled, registering a growth of over 250%. Data from the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural and Livestock Economics (Imea) indicate that the 2024/25 crop reached over 700,000 hectares cultivated, representing an increase of 48% compared to the previous season. Although the National Supply Company (Conab) estimates 401,000 hectares planted and a production of 720,000 tons in the state, a survey by the Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of Mato Grosso (Famato) points to significantly higher numbers.
