The Union No. 2 of Fishermen of Putú in the Maule Region, Chile, has been granted a five-hectare aquaculture concession at the mouth of the Huenchullami River. The concession, granted symbolically by several authorities, will allow the union to cultivate hair algae and oysters (Chilean and Japanese). The union is also looking to diversify its activities towards sustainable tourism. This concession is part of the government's strategy to promote productive diversification and value addition in the artisanal fishing and aquaculture sector.
