Poultry consumption in Germany saw particularly strong growth in 2025, reaching a new record level of 14.7 kilograms per capita. Despite the growth, meat consumption levels in Germany remain far below those of the past, such as 2011 with 63.8 kilograms per inhabitant. Pork is the most consumed type of meat in Germany. With an average of 28.3 kilograms per person, this type of meat accounted for almost 52% of the total meat consumption per capita. Despite rising consumer prices, beef and veal consumption increased by over 200 grams to 9.7 kilograms. German meat production fell by 0.3 percent to 7.3 million tons last year. This was largely due to a decrease in the number of cattle slaughtered, resulting in a 6% drop in net beef and veal production compared to 2024.
