CEPEA: Even at the end of the month, the price of yellow melon increased in Brazil

Piracicaba, 28 - This week (01/24 to 01/28), the yellow melon rose in value at Ceagesp. The average price of types 6 and 7 closed at R$ 34.5/box of 13 kg, an increase of 9% compared to last week. According to Hortifruti/Cepea employees, this increase was due to the lower supply in the market, since there was a reduction in production in Rio Grande do Norte/Ceará and, mainly, in the São Francisco Valley (BA/PE), caused by the voluminous rainfall. In addition, demand increased, even at the end of the month, due to the warmer weather, which favors the sale of refreshing fruits. Regarding the quality of the melon, it is good, although with the rains, the quality tends to decrease. For the next few weeks, it is expected that the price of yellow melon will rise further, as the supply should remain low and demand will increase, due to the heat, the beginning of the month approaching and the return to school.
