Mentan: Indonesia Has the Opportunity to Become a Superpower Through Agriculture
Production is rising, large investments and downstream processing are the pillars of national economic strength.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MAKASSAR -- Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman expressed optimism that Indonesia can become an independent and influential country, and even has the potential to become a superpower through strengthening agricultural sector downstream industries. "Downstream industrialization is the key to our agricultural transformation. If we can do this in the next 10 years with strong commitment, then Indonesia can become a superpower," Amran said while delivering a public lecture to master's and doctoral students at Hasanuddin University in the ASS Building, Makassar, South Sulawesi, Monday (9/6/2025). He explained that the strength of Indonesia's agricultural sector lies not only in production capacity but also in the ability to create added value through processing, innovation, and downstream industry development.
