In 2024, Mexico and Peru emerged as the primary avocado exporters, with sales increases of +20% and +29% respectively. Mexico, the world's leading producer, made sales of US$3.787 billion with a production of 2.67 million tons. The Netherlands, Spain, Morocco, Colombia, Chile, Israel, South Africa, and the United States round out the top 10 exporters. Mexico's leading position is attributed to its warm, sub-humid climate, ideal for avocado cultivation, and a high number of annual flowering periods, enabling constant production. The Ministry of Agriculture has established pest-free zones in 88 municipalities and nine agroecological zones, covering over 87% of the avocado cultivation area in the country.
