Mexico recently participated in a hearing by the US International Trade Commission (USITC) to defend the import of zucchini and cucumber from seasonal displacement claims, arguing that the production cycles of both countries complement each other, allowing American consumers to have fresh vegetables throughout the year. This investigation, conducted under Section 332 of the US Tariff Law, focuses on the potential impact of imports on the seasonal US market in the southeastern region. Following a successful defense of blueberries from similar claims, Mexico is now facing five more investigations for the import of raspberries, strawberries, peppers, cucumbers, and squash, and plans to continue defending the commercial interests of its farmers in collaboration with relevant ministries and the embassy in the US.
