The Third Intercontinental Congress of Pig Farmers of the Organization of Mexican Pig Farmers (Opormex) has commenced, focusing on boosting the pork industry's competitiveness and addressing current challenges. The event brings together union representatives, federal and foreign authorities, and key players in Mexico's livestock sector. Víctor Villalobos Arámbula, head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader), emphasized the importance of preventive measures in maintaining Mexico's pork industry pest and disease-free, highlighting the need for traceability systems and regionalization to protect disease-free regions. Additionally, the need for promoting pork consumption was underscored, with Mexico being the eight largest producer in the world in 2023.
