Peru's Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) has initiated the 'Camotea Perú' campaign to increase the consumption of sweet potatoes from 3.4 kg to 5 kg per person annually. The campaign aims to enhance nutrition and stimulate rural sales. Sweet potatoes, a significant crop in Peru with an annual production of 276,000 tons, are rich in vitamins A and C, potassium, iron, starch, sodium, and folic acid. The country saw a record high in sweet potato exports in 2021, with over 13,000 tons sold internationally, primarily in frozen form.
