Although the pasture is abundant, tropical grasses – such as mombaça, brachiaria, and tifton – are naturally deficient in macro and microminerals. The main nutritional bottleneck is phosphorus, a mineral vital for energy metabolism, weight gain, reproduction, and bone health of cattle. According to zootechnician and consultant Maurício Scoton, the key point to increase the potential of the herd is not in the brand of the supplement, but rather in ensuring the effective consumption of the necessary amount of minerals per head/day. He estimates that 98% of cattle farmers have a salt consumption below the recommended amount, which sabotages the expression of the genetic potential of the cattle. Check it out: The success of mineralization during the rainy season lies in meeting the specific demand of each category, as the phosphorus requirement varies: The general recommendation is for cattle to consume between 4 to 6 grams of phosphorus per day.
