The Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, met with representatives from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of South Korea to discuss the 2nd Phase of the Food Safety Management Cooperation Program. The program aims to improve policies related to food exports and imports between the two countries. Brazil is an important agricultural producer and an important trading partner for South Korea in terms of food imports, with 89% of imports coming from Brazil.
The Cooperation Program will cover topics such as understanding the Korean Food Safety Control System and the inspection of imported food. Brazil is the largest exporter of poultry meat, green coffee, soybean meal, and undenatured ethanol, and is the second largest exporter of corn and soybeans. There have been negotiations between the two countries to simplify and speed up trade in meat products, and inspections have taken place to authorize Brazilian establishments to export chicken, pork, and soon beef to South Korea.
