The livestock sector remains divided on the issue of whether to vaccinate sheep and goats against sheep pox, and the decision will be political, announced the Minister of Agriculture and Food Georgi Tahkov, cited by National Radio. There are two approaches to dealing with the infection, Minister Tahkov recalled - vaccination and tightening all other measures, such as increasing the level of biosecurity and cutting off animal smuggling. He emphasized that the peak of the disease was in July, when between 25 and 40 outbreaks were registered per day. "For the last three weeks, we have had about three outbreaks per week, which in itself means that the measures we have taken are having their preventive effect, and we are indeed already in a plateau, which I strongly hope we will overcome," said the minister.
