Russia is nearing the targets of its Food Security Doctrine, maintaining food self-sufficiency and remaining a major food exporter, according to Agriculture Minister Dmitry Patrushev. The country is on track to surpass several doctrine indicators, including grain and vegetable oil production, and is expected to meet sugar self-sufficiency. Despite challenges in potato and vegetable production, increases are anticipated. Fruit and berry production is not yet self-sufficient, but it and meat production are on the rise. The dairy sector, which receives the most support, is targeting 90% self-sufficiency. The ministry will continue to improve support systems and expand contacts with science and business to increase production.
