The glyphosate saga in Misiones added a new chapter, and this time it is controversial. The provincial government continues to cling to its idea of banning the herbicide glyphosate, despite the resistance of almost the entire productive sector. In this clash, this Friday saw the issuance of a decree that extended indefinitely (until a "friendly method" is obtained that can replace the herbicide) an exception for producers who register to continue using it.
This entire controversy began in 2023, when the province approved the Bioinsumos Promotion Law, which establishes measures to promote products of biological origin, and set an expiration date for glyphosate: In 2025, the popular chemical synthesis herbicide was to be banned.
As expected, there was an immediate rejection from the productive sector, which exclusively uses this herbicide. What the producers claim is that a biological herbicide capable of substituting glyphosate has not yet been invented.
