The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry of the Republic of Moldova has announced a record apple export of 50,000 tons for the current season, driven by the European Commission's doubling of the quota for Moldovan apple exports to the EU to 80,000 tons and increased exports to Romania. However, experts and traders believe this target is overly optimistic due to a sharp decline in apple supplies to the EU in recent months, competition from high harvest seasons in other European countries, especially Poland, and a low apple harvest in Moldova itself. Additionally, the speed of apple storage is reportedly slow, raising doubts about the achievability of the 100,000-ton storage volume predicted for the season.
