At least 7,681 heads of livestock from 85 herders in Mongolia's Uvurkhangai province have been infected with foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), according to the provincial veterinary department. The disease has spread among herders who moved their livestock to the east due to drought. FMD has been reported in over half of Mongolia's provinces this year. The country's livestock sector, a key part of the economy, has been significantly impacted, leading to meat exports being suspended since June due to infectious animal diseases.
