Malaysia is experiencing severe flooding that has damaged over 38,000 hectares of paddy fields in its northern states, affecting the main rice-producing areas and causing significant losses for farmers. The worst-hit states are Kedah and Kelantan, with 12,600 and over 26,000 hectares of paddy fields underwater, respectively. The floods have occurred at a critical time as the paddy is either newly planted or ready for harvest. So far, the government has not provided any support to the affected farmers. The total agricultural losses in Kelantan are projected to exceed RM16 million.
