The 2024 'Top 100' list of the world's best olive oils did not feature Moroccan olive oil, highlighting concerns about its quality and international reputation. Despite Morocco's significant role as a Mediterranean olive oil producer and rising local prices, the quality has not reached international standards. In contrast, Spanish olive oils excelled due to advanced production techniques and strict quality standards. Experts suggest that Morocco's absence is due to climate challenges, such as prolonged droughts, impacting production and quality. There is a call for revising agricultural policies and adopting strategies to adapt to climate change to improve the competitiveness of Moroccan olive oil globally.
