The Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities (MPIC) of Malaysia is keeping a close eye on the anti-palm oil campaigns in the West and is taking steps to safeguard the industry. The Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) is engaging with lawmakers in Europe and the US to present the industry's point of view. The government is also promoting the sustainability of the palm oil industry by implementing the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) Certification Scheme and limiting oil palm cultivation to 6.5 million hectares. Additionally, the MPIC is partnering with the Sarawak Department of Agriculture to use satellite technology to monitor pepper planting and production areas in Sarawak.
