Mato Grosso do Sul breaks record in cassava production and leads starch exports in Brazil

Mato Grosso do Sul broke a new record in the export of cassava starch, registering first place in the country in exports in 2022, with 23 thousand tons and US$ 17 thousand dollars in revenue. In 2023, the State occupied second position. The expansion of the national market and the opening of exports have attracted investments in the last two years totaling 50 starch, flour, starch and cassava derivatives industries (starch factories), with emphasis on the southern region of the State. Investments planned in the sector total R$35.7 million, expected to generate 237 direct jobs. “The numbers show the importance of Mato Grosso do Sul with regard to starch production, appearing as an important producer and exporter”, highlighted the Secretary of Environment, Development, Science, Technology and Innovation (Semadesc) Jaime Verruck.
